Despite the Weather, Enthusiasts Flocked to the 2008 Carlisle Performance & Style Show

Tuesday, May 13, 2008

CARLISLE, PA – The Carlisle Performance & Style show this past weekend could not be stopped by cold and wet weather. Braving the conditions, car enthusiasts traveled from around the country to the Carlisle Pennsylvania Fairgrounds to check out their favorite compacts, VIP luxury sedans, SUV’s, body-dropped trucks, donks, race cars, drift cars and everything in between. With an estimated 25,000 people in attendance, providing a clean and safe environment to all attendees is always the goal of the show and that was the case again this year. There were no major security issues and all on hand enjoyed a family-friendly atmosphere.

Special guests for the 2008 Performance and Style show included Jason Ellis, professional skateboarder, amateur drifter and Sirius satellite radio DJ, and Neil Tjin, legendary car builder and editor of HCI Magazine. Ellis met with fans that had come out after hearing him announce the show on-air that Carlisle Performance & Style would be “one of the craziest weekends of my life.” His fans knew exactly what he meant once they saw him on the drift track. The amateur drifter got a few pointers from the Drift Brigade and Nissan Infiniti Car Owners Club before earning impressive times with an aggressive style that left him with a few dents and scratches to his Mustang after a brush with safety fencing. Car builder and editor, Neil Tjin brought an impressive fleet of cars that were on display for everyone to see. Tjin met with fans and gave them detailed explanations of what went into each of his designs. When asked about why he has been a regular at the Carlisle Performance and Style shows, Tjin said, “I come back to the Performance and Style event because the fans are some of most knowledgeable and passionate here at Carlisle.”

Competition is a staple of the Carlisle Performance & Style show and this year saw tight races in all sorts of contests judging who “the best of the best” were. A new competition to this year’s show, the Carlisle Elite were awarded to the 10 top showfield vehicles on Friday night. The Beauty and Burnout contests are typically the biggest draws at the Performance and Style show and this year was no different. The grandstands were packed with an enthusiastic crowd who let their voice be heard when it came to judging the contestants of each award.
