Humane Society of the Harrisburg Area at Carlisle Bike Fest

Local Non-Profit Organization to Work in Conjunction with Disc-Connected K9’s and Carlisle Events

Sunday, June 26, 2011

From dogs to cats, snakes to lizards everyone has an affinity for critters of some sort, furry or slimy. While many animals live a happy life in forever homes, some find themselves unloved and on the streets. Because there are unwanted and homeless animals, organizations like the Humane Society of the Harrisburg Area exist to provide food, shelter, love and a temporary home to many four-legged friends. This year at Carlisle Bike Fest, July 22-24 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds, the Humane Society will partner with Lawrence Frederick and Disc-Connected K-9’s to further awareness of animal rescue, provide a forum for donations and make available pets for adoption.

The Humane Society historically rescues animals in need and Lawrence Frederick of Disc-Connected K-9’s does something similar. Lawrence’s operation is based out of the Jacksonville/St. Augustine, Florida area; however, his traveling road show is more than just dogs that chase plastic frisbees. The two world champion dogs in action at Carlisle and continually for Disc-Connected K-9’s are rescues found on the streets of northeast Florida and nationwide as well as in shelters similar to the Humane Society.

"The greatest fulfillment I have had in my life is being able to perform with my dogs all over the world demonstrating to people what you can do with these rescued dogs if you just give them a second chance in life,” noted owner and trainer Lawrence Frederick.

As part of the partnership, the Humane Society will be set up within the Disc-Connected exhibition area on Saturday, July 23 and feature animals available for adoption. Also, the Humane Society will be able to accept donations, both monetarily and in the form of product for their shelter.

"We are honored to have the partnership and support of such a talented group and, more importantly, such ardent advocates of animal rescue,” said Kelly Hitz, Director of Public Relations for the Humane Society of the Harrisburg Area.

Given the success and missions of Lawrence Frederick, Disc-Connected K-9’s and the Humane Society of the Harrisburg Area, being part of this event is a must for families, pet lovers and bike enthusiasts alike. In addition to the four-legged fun, the weekend will be filled with more than 35,000 bike enthusiasts and free bike parking. Many riders will step off bikes into the middle of an experience like no other. Carlisle Bike Fest, the Mid-Atlantic’s premier motorcycle event, is crafted with the rider in mind. Tens of thousands of bikes, trikes and open-air enthusiasts will cruise in through the breathtaking scenic mountains of the Cumberland Valley to Carlisle for everything from non-stop entertainment to industry guests, demo rides, bike giveaways and more. Whether you spend a few hours or the entire day in Carlisle, you will enjoy a wide variety of apparel, motorcycle and accessory vendors that are second to none. You don’t want to miss this three-day, open-air celebration. Carlisle Bike Fest – enjoy the ride!
