2010 Truck Nationals to Host a Reunion of Vietnam Gun Trucks Crews
The Carlisle Truck Nationals: August 6 – 8 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds
Monday, July 26, 2010
In addition to the trucking action for the entire family, the Carlisle Truck Nationals (August 6 – 8 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds) will host a Vietnam-Era Gun Truck display on Saturday of the event. Vietnam Gun Trucks have been described by some as a porcupine of guns, by others as turtles with guns. Whatever simile you want to use for the Vietnam-era “Gun Truck”, it was truly a unique field vehicle, used in the jungles of Vietnam to protect US Army conveys and they were darn good at it. On August 7th, truck enthusiasts and military vehicle fans will have the opportunity to see one of the largest gatherings of these vehicles, up close and personal at the Carlisle Truck Nationals, held at the Carlisle Fairgrounds.
As many as ten of the privately owned, five-ton, heavily armed and armored trucks as well as a number of other Vietnam War era vehicles will convoy through the Carlisle Fairgrounds on Saturday morning. The display will also include gun truck veterans, literature and displays on US Army history as well as living history with people portraying Vietnam War soldiers. The eighth reunion of Vietnam-era Transportation Veterans will also include stops in Gettysburg and at the US Army Heritage and Education Center in Carlisle between August fourth and eighth.
In addition to the Vietnam-Era Gun Truck gathering, the Carlisle Truck Nationals will be packed with entertainment including monster truck shows and rides, Megasaurus (the three story tall - car eating – fire breathing robot dinosaur), a showfield filled with almost 2,000 trucks from all aspects of the collector truck hobby, vintage truck display from the Antique Truck Historical Society and much more.
