Spring Carlisle 2009: Jam-packed with Enthusiasts and Vendors

2009 Spring Carlisle Demonstrated the Strength of the Collector Car Hobby with Record Numbers

Monday, May 04, 2009

The Pennsylvania Turnpike and Interstate-81, the two main tributaries to the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds, were backed up for over seven miles at one point during Spring Carlisle, held April 22nd-26th. The roadways were jam-packed with collector, classic and custom car and truck enthusiasts eager to attend the legendary swap meet, car corral and collector car auction. Once on grounds, car lovers traveling from near and far were able to enjoy an automotive event that is second to none. Over 8,100 vending spaces were full to capacity with parts, accessories and memorabilia including more than 1,800 vehicles of all makes, models and prices for sale in the car corral. To top off all of the shopping during the daytime, the buying and selling excitement continued on Thursday and Friday evenings at the 5th annual Spring Carlisle Collector Car Auction held at the Carlisle Expo Center. The Spring Carlisle Auction also exceeded expectations in 2009, with over 250 vehicles offered on the auction block.

Despite economic uncertainty, Spring Carlisle was a record-setting event in many aspects with more attendance on Friday than had been seen in the past four years. The high attendance of Spring Carlisle and the fact that all of the 8,100 vending spaces offered for swap meet and car corral vendors were sold out are telling signs of the continued passion in the collector car hobby for well-run, live events. Carlisle Events Co-Founder and partner Bill Miller Jr. said, “We haven’t seen traffic like this in many years. It is really exciting! It just shows how passionate people in the collector car hobby are. We hope this is a trend that carries through our season with nine more exciting events that really do have something for the entire family and for all car lovers.” Diane Vaughn, Carlisle Events Director of Customer Services added, “The number one reason that I think we are seeing continued participation from vendors at Spring Carlisle is because of the way our events and the name Carlisle are seen in the automotive hobby; true hobbyists will always come because of their passion for cars and car events.”
