Carlisle Import/Kit-Replicar Nationals: May 15-17 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds

Everything from European classics to Japanese sports cars, coupled with the largest kit car gathering in the world

Thursday, April 16, 2009

The Carlisle Import/Kit-Replicar Nationals is an event that showcases and celebrates a wide variety of vehicles; everything from European classics to Japanese sports cars will be displayed, judged and raced on the on-site autocross track throughout the weekend of May 15-17 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds. Coupled with the Carlisle Import Nationals is the largest kit car gathering in the U.S. Along with over 1,000 imports and kits of all makes and models the 2009 Carlisle Import/Kit-Replicar Showfield will feature vintage and specialty Japanese vehicles. Legendary classics from “The Land of the Rising Sun” that you can expect to see in the invitational display and on the showfield include: Honda Civic CVCCs, Nissan 350Zs, Datsun Roadsters, Toyota Celicas and early model Subarus and Mazda RX-7s.

This year’s special guest for the Kit-Replicar event will once again be Bruce Meyers, father of the modern day dune buggy. Meyers made his debut at the show last year and was such a hit that the Carlisle Events team had to have him back in 2009. Meyers has a long history with dune buggies, dating back to the original water pumpers of Southern California. Meyers took it upon himself to re-design the crude, heavy vehicles into the lightweight version that we are accustomed to today. This year Bruce will be bringing the first Meyers Manx Kick-Out to the show for its East Coast debut and along with John Denmat will be doing the final assembly of the very first Manx Kick-Out SS – during the event.
New for 2009 is the first ever vintage motorcycle display at the Import-Kit/Replicar Nationals. This aspect of the event which will become a regular feature of the show will this year play host to Mike Runnels’ collection of classic Suzukis. Runnels is the Virginia representative for the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club of North America, Inc. (VJMC) and his collection consists of about 30 Suzukis. Runnels will be joined by his fellow VJMC members and participant vintage import motorcycle owners and vendors outside of Building R, on the fairgrounds.
