Corvette Fever Ran through the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds with Everything for Lovers of America’s Sports Car
Tuesday, August 26, 2008
The 27th annual Corvettes at Carlisle brought with it something for all lovers of America’s Sports Car - the Corvette. Over the weekend of August 22-24 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds, extraordinary examples of Chevy’s supercar could be found - from the awesomely unique Vette Rods featured in this year’s Chip’s Choice Display to the new ZR1s on display in the GM tent on the Manufacturers Midway. Corvette fever included over 5,000 examples of all years of Corvettes throughout the 82-acre fairgrounds.
Four new ZR1s on display at the General Motors tent were the stars of the weekend. The grandstands were consistently jam packed with people eager to see and hear Tom Wallace, vehicle line executive for GM performance cars, do his walk-around and introduce all of the amazing new performance features.
A few other show highlights were the amazing Corvette American flag display, the Corvette giveaway sponsored by Corvette Mike and the Chip’s Choice display featuring Vette Rods – events you can read more about at www.CarlisleEvents.com. The Corvette American flag display was a concept that came to Carlisle Events’ Senior Manager Lance Miller in a dream. It was truly an amazing patriotic display with 117 red, white and blue Corvettes in an American flag formation.
John Conway of Simsbury, Connecticut, was the lucky attendee who drove home in a spectacular 1996 collector edition. Chip’s Choice is a display that the late Chip Miller, Carlisle Events’ co-founder, started in 1990 as an addition to the already-successful Corvettes at Carlisle. This year the display featured Vette Rods. Vette Rods are early Corvettes that usually entail main component upgrades/modifications. Chip’s Choice always seeks to find the best of the best and this year was no exception. Other highlights included visits from GM executives, beauty contest, a burnout competition, a huge Fun Field, NCCC Concourse show field, NCRS Gallery, autocross, informative seminars, Women’s Oasis and Kids at Carlisle. All of this added to our not-to-be-equaled swap meet, car corral and perfect weather made it a weekend for all to remember.
The 2009 Corvettes at Carlisle, August 28-30, will highlight Corvette race cars with a special display of Corvettes that have raced at the 24 hours of Le Mans.
