COUNTDOWN TO
IMPORT & KIT NATIONALS 2014

A BRIEF REVIEW OF 2013 A BRIEF REVIEW OF 2013
Swedish Cars, Peter Brock, Great Seminars, Music and More

Since 1986, the Carlisle Import & Kit Nationals has displayed the best import and kit cars in the mid-Atlantic region and beyond. In recent years, a simple event has transformed into an automotive festival. Live music, prizes and more have given the weekend an overhaul and 2013 was another great showcase of international automotive history. The Passport Program returned as did a massive array of clubs. More seminars were held onsite too giving the tent an always full feel to it. Guests like Peter Brock held court with patrons hanging on each word the legend shared about his experiences within the hobby.

Additional highlights included awards on Sunday plus a Saturday showcase of two machines, 100 years apart, making parade laps around the autocross track. Though this event has concluded, the next one is just 11+ months away, May 16-18, 2014.

Peter Brock is Coming to Carlisle Peter Brock is Coming to Carlisle
Legendary Designer and Racer Onsite at Import & Kit Weekend

Peter Brock is a highly regarded designer and author within the automotive hobby. After leaving Shelby American in 1965, Brock launched his own company, Brock Racing Enterprises (a.k.a. BRE). Prior to doing so, however; Brock had some pretty impressive successes in the automotive design field, most notably penning the classic forms that would eventually become the famed ’63 “split window” Corvette Stingray, a design celebrating 50 years in 2013. In addition, after a move to the west coast, Brock designed the body for the World Championship winning Cobra Daytona Coupe for Shelby American.

On his own with BRE, he not only was designing cars for companies like Hino, Toyota and Triumph, he started his own race team and literally put the Japanese automotive industry into the history books with his famed team of BRE Datsuns, winning two C Production National Championships with the 240Z and two 2.5 Trans-Am Championships with driver John Morton and his beloved BRE Datsun 510s.

In addition, his star power and amazing resume will be accompanied by his 1975 Datsun 510. This was the championship winning car from'72 and is coming direct from Tennessee to reunite with the man who gave it the success it's known for. Brock is a true innovator within the industry and you can meet this great man onsite throughout the weekend at Carlisle.

Irish and Scottish Music Higlight Weekend Sounds

The love of Irish & Scottish music brought the acoustic trio of Mike Morrison, Chuck Krepley & Dan Diviney together late in 2010 to form Across the Pond. Focused on traditional Irish and Scottish songs and tunes, this trio adds their own arrangements to create a unique and moving style. And you might hear a an occasional Old Timey or bluegrass tune in their music. Their music is acoustically woven on fiddle, guitar, flute, whistles, mandolin and bodhran. From slow haunting airs, love songs and ballads, to hard driving songs, and fast jigs and reels, Across the Pond plays the music with emotion and conviction. The music spans centuries of oppression, from the work of O'Carolan and others in the 17th and 18th to contemporary pieces, all of which can be heard in the pubs if Ireland and Scotland today.

Catch them Friday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., both sets will be on the new stage just inside of Gate 3.

The Jazz Me Rhythm & Blues Band began playing together nearly 8 years ago, and is usually comprised of four South Central Pennsylvania musicians. Jazz Me is considered a variety band in that they perform everything from Sinatra to Santana, Motown to ZZ Top and everything in between. In late September 2010 the band released their sixth CD project entitled Mo' Jazz Me rhythm & blues, which was preceded last year by their Christmas CD named, “Jazzy...with a Chance of Flurries."

Because of this wide variety of songs, the band can entertain virtually any age group. Jazz Me has been awarded the "Best Of" bands several times by the Sentinel readers, and was named "Simply the Best" in the Harrisburg Magazine's Readers Choice poll for 2010, 2011 & 2012.

                  See Her Play Saturday

In the summer of 2012, Payton Taylor performed at several of the country's largest music festivals, such as Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the CMA (Country Music Association) Music Festival in Nashville, Tennessee. She released her debut CD, entitled "Shine", in the summer of 2011, and since then, she has opened for major artists, such as Casey James, Chuck Wicks, Collin Raye, Lorrie Morgan, Pam Tillis, and the legendary Charlie Daniels Band. Payton has been singing since she was only a child, but during a trip to Nashville, Tennessee in August 2009, she was invited to jump on stage at a local music venue and perform a couple of songs. “That’s when I knew I wanted to sing Country Music for the rest of my life,” says Taylor. “During that trip, I fell in love with Nashville – it’s music, history, and its culture.” She was a finalist for the 2011 Texaco Country Showdown, and has been gaining national attention through multiple TV appearances, newspaper and magazine interviews, and a strong social media presence through sites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. She is presently recording her 2nd album. The project contains 6 songs that Taylor wrote herself and is set to be released by mid-summer 2013.

See Taylor twice on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Both performances take place on the River 97.3 Main Stage.
